Welcome to the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign! In 2008-09, we celebrate our 100th Anniversary – and look ahead toward the next century of landscape architectural inquiry and design.
The long-term vision you will find in these webpages ranges across the full spectrum of scales -- from yard to universe; problems -- from ecological restoration to community design and international cultural heritage conservation; and design technologies -- from physical models to dynamic 3-D visualization. As you will see, we have a beautiful campus, situated in a region of global agricultural production, tallgrass prairie remnants, and strong metropolitan connections with Chicago, St. Louis, and Indianapolis.
This Department stands out for its creative combination of High Design Theory + High Design Practice. Faculty are nationally and internationally recognized leaders in their fields, and we have an outstanding network of alumni, visiting practitioners, and design firms. We offer a hardworking, collegial faculty and superbly-equipped design studios, whether you are working in our five-year Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program, or with faculty mentors in our Master of Landscape Architecture, or scholarly frontiers in our new joint-PhD program with the School of Architecture.
Here at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, we offer the only professionally-accredited BLA and MLA degrees in the State of Illinois, which is a prerequisite for taking the licensing exam in Illinois, and we have now graduated over 1,200 distinguished alums.
