Sun. May 17, 10:30 a.m. Allerton Park "Sunken Garden," Monticello, IL
(Graduates and Faculty to meet at Visitor's Center at 10:00 a.m.)
The Sunken Garden at Robert Allerton Park in Monticello, Illinois will be the location for the 2009 Department of Landscape Architecture convocation ceremony on Sunday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m. The Allerton Park gardens and surrounding landscape have made graduation a memorable experience for graduates of the Department and their families and friends for over twenty years. The walking path going west from the Visitor's Center leads graduates and visitors through a series of garden rooms to the convocation location in the Sunken Garden. Angela Dye (President of the American Society of Landscape Architects) and Michael Ross (Associate Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts and Director of Krannert Center for the Performing Arts) will be our guests for the event. Ms. Dye will deliver the convocation address and two students (Mark Frigy, BLA, and Timothy Marten, MLA) will deliver messages on behalf of the students.
This year we proudly celebrate students graduating with the degrees of Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, Master of Landscape Architecture, and Doctor of Philosophy in Landscape Architecture. The Ph.D. program (jointly administered by the Department of Landscape Architecture and the School of Architecture) was initiated in 2001 and this year Assiah Lamzah will be the second student to receive a Ph.D. in Landscape Architecture from our program.
Immediately following the convocation, a class photo will be taken. This will be followed by a brief reception to be held near the Visitor's Center.
IN CASE OF RAIN OR OTHER INCLEMENT WEATHER, the Landscape Architecture convocation will take place in the Allerton Park "Music Barn." Starting time will be the same--10:30 a.m.
