The rich historic and landscape legacy of Champaner-Pavagadh will be lost  if immediate steps are not taken for heritage conservation. Historic buildings must be preserved and restored; the buried city should be re-excavated; and the cultural landscape should be rehabilitated.  We propose an archaeological park which will in effect create a picturesque landscape within which the ruins and monuments can be experienced.  The park will be sustained by revival of rainwater harvesting system, repair of tanks and stepwells, planting of shade trees along heritage trails, directional and information signage, and provision of tourist and pilgrim facilities.   Together with ongoing efforts to develop a data base if cultural and historic resources by Heritage Trust, the landscape management plan will be a positive step in heritage conservation.

We propose Pavagadh hill as a Cultural Sanctuary to expand the range of pilgrims’ landscape experience and make them cognizant of the heritage dimension of the site.  This will create a context for interpretive programs, cultural festivals, and community participation that will result in elongating the pilgrims’ stay and thus generate economic returns that will benefit the local residents and temple trusts.

There are many Heritage Sites throughout Champaner-Pavagadh.  None have been ignored and each has received site specific treatment.
