Computing Tips

Add your personal computer to the network

Any student can log-in to the UIUCnet wireless connection via their NetID and AD password, but you can register your personal computer on the network for a secure connection via a CAT5 Ethernet cable. This connection allows for uninterrupted access to the internet as well as to the file server (LA-SERVER02) and print servers (ARCH-LAB-NTS) in Temple Buell Hall and (LA-SERVER03) in Mumford. E-mail LA Computing (arch-computing@illinois.edu) to add your personal computer to the network. In the e-mail, be sure to include:

- Your name
- NetID (do not include your password)
- Academic standing (Undergrad, MLA, PhD)
- Location of primary studio or office this semester
- Ethernet address for your Ethernet adapter (also known as "physical address" or "MAC address"). Click for instructions.

Access the servers remotely via CITES VPN

CITES provides software to connect to the University network from off-campus locations through VPN (Virtual Private Network) software. Click for instructions
