This course introduces you to community design as an integration of infrastructure planning and design, public use planning and design, and private development (residential site planning and commercial development) planning/design. In other words, you will learn about design as a complex of decisions involving many (often competing!) objectives. Community design requires integration of the environmental context (climate, topography, hydrology, soils, etc.), social context (community institutions, demographic variation, safety and justice, etc.), and the client context (public agencies, private developers, community organizations, and the public) through your particular design expression.
